An OG handle held by a squatter account

Short answer: A squatter holds short names to sell them. Instagram's terms do not allow buying or selling usernames, so you can report an account that offers a handle for sale. A report can lead Instagram to act on the account, but it does not move the handle to you.

Signs of a squatter

What you can do

  1. Screenshot the bio and any sale offer with the date.
  2. Report the account in the app for selling a username.
  3. Do not pay, even through a middleman. See OG handle escrow and middlemen.
  4. Check the handle in your own settings now and then. If it saves, it is yours.

If you have a real claim

A registered mark or an account posing as you opens a separate route. Length and price tags do not.

YOUR QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Does reporting a seller free the handle?

Not directly. Instagram decides what happens to the account and the name.

Is it safe to ask the price?

Asking costs nothing, but paying breaks Instagram's terms and is a common scam.

Can Ogclaim take a squatted handle?

Only if a real route fits. If a claim fails, our refund policy gives a 100% refund.

Want it handled for you?

Send the username on WhatsApp or email. You hear whether it looks workable. See the refund policy on the pricing page.
