How swaps usually go
A seller shows a screenshot of the handle, you move your account details or login, and they promise to return the handle. In a scam, the seller keeps your account or never had the handle.
Why it is against the rules
Instagram’s terms do not allow selling or transferring accounts and ask you not to ask for or share login credentials. An account that has been traded can be disabled, and a purchase leaves you with nothing to appeal.
Red flags
- They ask for your login, a code or access to your email
- They are paid first and promise to deliver later
- The handle account has an email you cannot see
- They push you to hurry because ‘someone else is offering’
- They claim a contact at Instagram
If you still want the handle
The official route is a claim, not a trade. It is slower to start and cannot be completed by anyone who simply wants your money. Read how Ogclaim handles OG claims.
If you have been caught
Change the password on your account and its email, log out of every device, enable two-factor authentication and tell your payment provider. Report the seller’s profile to Instagram.
