What is possible
A three-character handle uses letters, numbers, periods or underscores. Instagram allows up to 30 characters, with no minimum that makes short names special in the rules.
Why they are hard to get
- Short names were registered early.
- Owners keep them even when the account is quiet.
- Nothing in Instagram's rules releases a name because it is short.
Realistic paths
- Check the name in the change screen.
- If a mark of yours matches, the IP route may apply.
- If the profile impersonates you, use the impersonation route.
- Otherwise pick a four or five character name.
